A blog of painting, sculpture, architecture, illustration and photography covering most time periods and movements.
I try and post an even spread of classic art and pieces by lesser-known artists. Enjoy!
Artist of the Week on Sundays: Message me to nominate your favourite artists

Hello! My name is Helen and I am a 21 year old art history student living in Brighton and studying at Sussex University. I am in love with the Renaissance and painters such as Botticelli and Raphael, but more recently I have rediscovered my passion for the Impressionists, American Realists, Romanticist landscapes, Art Nouveau architecture, Expressionist portraiture and the Pre-Raphaelites. The list is long, but my favourite artists include Edward Hopper, Henri Rousseau, Sandro Botticelli, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Gustave Caillebotte, Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Alphonse Mucha, Edgar Degas, Gustave Moreau, Diego Velazquez, Frida Kahlo, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Evelyn de Morgan, J. M. W. Turner, Henry Fuseli, John Singer Sargent, Paul Cezanne, Raphael, Johannes Vermeer, Edouard Manet, Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Canaletto, Winslow Homer, Joan Miro, Andrew Wyeth, Paul Klee and Camille Pissarro.

I am not a huge fan of conceptual and modern art; any modern artists I like are generally classically or photographically inspired in some way.

Suggestions and comments are very welcome! Some of my favourite paintings are posted below.

The Three Graces by Raphael, 1504-05

Apples and Oranges by Paul Cezanne, 1895-1900

Poppies by Emil Nolde, 1920

The Birth of Venus by Alessandro Botticelli, c.1486

The Umbrellas by Pierre-Auguste Renoir, 1881-86

Salt Kettle, Bermuda by Winslow Homer, 1899

Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh, 1889
