The Jungle by Wifredo Lam, 1943. I love the surreal composition of elongated figures and bamboo poles in The Jungle, painted during Lam’s return to Havana in Cuba, after spending nearly 20 years in Europe. There is a shocking and raw feel to the image, especially where the shapes seem ambiguous in their connection and standing.
