Mad Kate by Henry Fuseli, c.1806 I love the dark, moody atmosphere in this portrait by Swiss Romanticist Henry Fuseli. Mad Kate’s body language exudes tension and on-edgeness, as though she has just been surprised by the presence of the viewer. Her eyes seem to bore into ours, making one feel intense discomfort .. a far cry from the alluring gaze of the Impressionist women!
