Space-Force Construction by Lyubov Popova, c.1920. Popova was a Russian artist whose avant-garde work spanned the movements of cubism, futurism, constructivism and suprematism. These artistic divisions were extremely male-dominated, leaving Popova as a lesser-known name in modern day studies. Space-Force Construction is one of the Popova’s images that is purely object or shape base and without any figures.

Dance by Alexander Rodchenko, 1915. The word ‘dance’ conjures up dynamic forms of body shape, twists and turns and the regularity of a beat. Rodchenko’s depiction ticks all of these boxes, though this is a very different style to most of his other works.
