ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Pablo Picasso, 1881-1973

Pablo Picasso is easily one of the world’s most famous and recognised artists of the 20th century. Along with George Braques, he is responsible for the birth of Cubism, an art movement that inspired a generation and turned the growing interest in abstraction into a reality. Guernica and Les Demoiselles d’Avignon are considered to be two of his biggest works and despite being thirty years apart, you can see how Picasso stayed true to abstraction, though his style and manner of approach changed over time.

If you’re travelling to Spain over the summer, there are several Picasso museums to think about visiting: one in Barcelona and one in his home town of Malaga.
